The Cheshire Wildlife Trust are to enter a garden in this years prestigious RHS Tatton Flower Show.

Cheshire Wildlife Trust is to have its first garden at this year's RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park. The garden will take its influence from Victorian naturalists; celebrated protectors of wildlife.

The Victorians collected and catalogued species with great vigour, so much so that their thorough methods still form the basis of much of today's scientific understanding. Reflecting this Victorian theme, Cheshire Wildlife Trust's garden will incorporate a stumpery which is formed from uprooted tree stumps that have been arranged to form a natural sculpture. Stumperies were a highlight in the landscaped gardens of some of the country's most notable estates. The hollows of the stumps provide a place to grow ferns and woodland plants, as well as offering a safe haven for wildlife.

Sue Tatman, Conservation Officer for the Trust comments, 'After having a presence at the show for several years we felt that producing a garden had to be the next stage, and presents a challenge we are all very excited about. We have worked particularly hard during the past few years at promoting wildlife friendly gardening, but wanted to develop this further by broadening our brief. We hope that the garden will be a more creative way of strengthening this message.'
